The St. Louis Healthy Corner Store Project is accepting nominations for the 2012 program year. Nominations will be accepted from City of St. Louis aldermen, neighborhood stabilization officers, nonprofit staff and community leaders. The nomination process requires the identification of both a neighborhood corner store and a community group. Through our pilot project, we found that community leadership and support of the corner store owner play a vital role in the success of the program. This morning Officer Joe Calabro,Sr, Community Outreach Officer, District 3, asked me to pass along this information concerning the old South Grand YMCA. Officer Calabro said that several arrest were made relative to the thefts of copper and break-ins at the YMCA. He said he wanted to thank those citizens, whose diligence paid off, making the police aware of the thefts and burglaries at the YMCA, which ultimately lead to the arrest this morning.
