South City commuters rejoice!

In its home stretch of construction, the Grand Viaduct Bridge will tentatively reopen on July 14 with one lane of traffic each way.

The renovations to the aging Grand Viaduct Bridge began in 2010, and will include a “grand” total of six lanes of traffic, dedicated bus pullouts, and more shelter installations for Metro commuters.

Improvements to the heavily-used Metrolink stop are also expected to be finished by the end of the summer. Street-level elevators will go down to the new transit plaza, instead of directly on the Metrolink platform. The transit plaza will include vending, public restrooms and improved landscaping.
